Boulliau (Boulliaud, Bullialdus), Ismael:
Philolai, sive Dissertationis de vero systemate mundi, libri IV. Amsterdam: Guil. & Johannes (Willem & Joan) Blaeu, 1639. 2 Blatt, 159 Seiten mit zahlreichen Holzschnitten. Späterer privater Halbpergamentband mit allseitig grün gesprenkeltem Schnitt. Außerordentlich seltene Erstausgabe (in den letzten 50 Jahren sind bei Auktionen in Deutschland nur 2 Exemplare aufgetaucht) dieses anonym veröffentlichten Werkes des französischen Astronomen Ismael Boulliau (1605-1694) in hervorragendem Erhaltungszustand. Lediglich minimale Mängel: Schmale Wasserränder unten auf drei Blättern, ein 1,5 cm langes Loch (vielleicht schon aus der Papierherstellung) oben in der Ecke der Seiten 17/18 und ein Fehlstück an der unteren Ecke der Seiten 121/122. In keinem Fall sind der Text oder Zeichnungen betroffen. Das Papier ist offenbar von bester Qualität und weist kaum Braunfärbungen auf. Das Druckbild wirkt so frisch und klar, dass man kaum glauben mag, ein fast 400 Jahre altes Buch vor sich zu haben. Lediglich drei feine Unterstreichungen und zwei Zahleneinträge auf der Titelseite, ansonsten textsauber und aus einem Nichtraucherhaushalt. Sprache: Latein. Unter Bezugnahme auf die Kosmologie des antiken griechischen Philosophen Philolaos, der nicht die Erde in den Mittelpunkt des Universums stellte, beschreibt Boulliau darin, illustriert durch zahlreiche Holzschnitte, seine Theorie zum Aufbau des Sonnensystems. Boulliau war zudem Kopernikaner, was damals nicht so selten war, aber die Zahl pro-kopernikanischer Abhandlungen, die vor 1660 veröffentlicht wurden, war relativ gering. Er fügte einen Holzschnitt des heliozentrischen Systems von Kopernikus ein, den er mit ?Das wahre System der Welt? betitelte. // A later private half-parchment binding with green-mottled edges on all sides. An exceptionally rare first edition (in the last 50 years, only 2 examples have appeared at auctions in Germany) of this anonymously published work by the French astronomer Ismael Boulliau (1605-1694) in excellent condition. Only minimal defects: narrow watermarks at the bottom of three leaves, a 1.5 cm hole (perhaps from the papermaking process) in the top corner of pages 17/18, and a missing piece in the bottom corner of pages 121/122. In no case are the text or drawings affected. The paper is clearly of the highest quality and shows hardly any browning. The print appears so fresh and clear that it`s hard to believe you`re looking at a book almost 400 years old. Only three subtle underlines and two numerical entries on the title page, otherwise it`s a clean book in good condition. Book from a non smoking environment. Language: Latin. Referencing the cosmology of the ancient Greek philosopher Philolaus, who did not place the Earth at the center of the universe, Boulliau describes his theory of the structure of the solar system, illustrated by numerous woodcuts. Boulliau was also a Copernican, which was not uncommon at the time, but the number of pro-Copernican treatises published before 1660 was relatively small.
