Erste Ausgabe. Englischsprachige Ausgabe. Mit über 50 Unterschriften in Blei und Tinte durch das Ensemble der York Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society aus dem Jahr 1922 auf dem zweiten Schmutztitel verso und dem Frontispiz recto und mit zwei auf fliegendem Blatt verso und erstem Schmutztitel verso montierten Original-Fotografien in Schwarz-Weiß von der Inszenierung aus dem selben Jahr. Mit Frontispiz und 5 weiteren Farbtafeln durch Alice B. Woodward, außerdem mit 10 Textillustrationen in Schwarz-Weiß. Ein Teil des Original-Umschlags wurde auf das Inhaltsverzeichnisblatt verso montiert. Gilberts populäres Libretto zur komischen Oper von 1885 mit Musik von Arthur Sullivan ist in dieser Nacherzählung, die ein Jahrzehnt nach Gilberts Tod veröffentlicht wurde, in Prosa wiedergegeben. Einband nur minimal berieben. Vorsatzpapiere mit Abriebstellen und kleineren Randeinrissen. Seiten nur minimal gebräunt, das Tafelverzeichnis mit Säureschatten. Insgesamt sehr gutes Exemplar. A bit later half-leather binding with floral cloth-covered boards and illustrated endpapers. First edition. English-language edition. With more than 50 signatures in pencil and ink by members of the York Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (1922), on the verso of the second half-title and the recto of the frontispiece, together with two mounted original black-and-white photographs of the same year?s production on the verso of a flyleaf and the verso of the first half-title. With a frontispiece and 5 additional color plates by Alice B. Woodward, as well as 10 black-and-white text illustrations. A part of the original jacket has been mounted to the verso of the table of contents leaf. Gilbert?s popular libretto to the 1885 comic opera with music by Arthur Sullivan is here rendered in prose in this retelling, published a decade after Gilbert?s death. Binding only minimally rubbed. Endpapers with some abrasions and minor marginal tears. Pages only slightly darkened, the plate list with offsetting. Overall a fine copy.
